New COVID-19 case takes patient tally to 1,514

VGP – A 24-year-old woman repatriated from Japan was confirmed the latest case of COVID-19 on Sunday.

The woman, native of the northern province of Vinh Phuc, took flight QH9415 from Japan to Tho Xuan airport in Thanh Hoa Province on January 8.

She is being treated at the Thanh Hoa Hospital for Lung Diseases.

Of the country’s patient tally, 1,361 have recovered and exited hospitals while 35 others have been reported dead.

The nation is placing 17,634 people who have come in contact with COVID-19 cases or brought home from abroad. Of these, 146 are being kept at hospitals, 15,875 at concentrated quarantine centers and 1,613 at places of residence.

Last week, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc decided to temporarily suspend inbound flights from countries and territories, firstly the UK and South Africa, that have reported new COVID-19 variants.

The Government chief assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Transport to work out a list of countries and territories that the new regulations will apply to.

So far, Viet Nam has pursued the strategy of domestic containment based on comprehensive zoning off, tracing, testing and quarantining, and prevention of external transmission sources./.
