The Australian Government on October 6 announced the 2020-2021 Budget, in which aid to the Southeast Asia region, including Viet Nam, still increases.

Accordingly, aid for Southeast Asian nations will be added AUD4.1 million against the previous year, reaching more than AUD1 billion.

Earlier, the Australian Government pledged an estimated AUD78.2 million in total ODA to Viet Nam in 2019-20, which includes AUD58.4 million in bilateral funding to the Southeast Asian country.

Australia’s aid programs in Viet Nam aim to leverage the nation’s significant domestic resources and foreign investment, and support Viet Nam’s efforts to enter a new phase of economic development.

By helping to stimulate the private sector, upskill the workforce, and support inclusive growth, these programs contribute to overarching goal of promoting prosperity and reducing poverty in Viet Nam.

Earlier in June 2020, the Australian government has added AUD5 million to a financial aid package to help Viet Nam’s economy and population mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic./.
