Speaking at the meeting of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on Thursday, Long said the ministry is coordinating with the locality to step up contact-tracing, testing and isolation to quickly eliminate the outbreak there.

The virus that caused the first community transmitted case in Hai Duong on August 8 was the same strain as the one in other hot spot of Da Nang, said the ministry.

For the situation in Da Nang and Quang Nam, Long said all suspected cases in there have been identified, isolated and diagnosed while the number of new infections remarkably dipped over the past days.

Regarding patient 994, who was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on August 19 after visiting Ha Noi-based E Hospital, Long said his recent tests showed that he is negative for the virus.

This is a complicated case, said Long, adding that hospitals must always stay vigilant in order to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks at medical establishments./.
