Over 340 nationals from Canada flown home

VGP – A flight carrying over 340 citizens from Canada landed at Ha Noi-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport on August 16, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The flight was arranged by the Vietnamese competent agencies, the Vietnamese representative office in Canada, the national flag carrier Viet Nam Airlines and Canadian authorities.

Passengers were mostly children aged below 18, the elderly, pregnant women, the sick, workers whose labor contracts expired, those without residences and other especially disadvantaged cases.

The Vietnamese Consulate in Vancouver, Canada sent staff to support the citizens at the airport.

Upon arrival, all the crew members and passengers were put under quarantine in line with regulations on Covid-19 prevention and control.    

The Government planned to arrange more flights in the time to come to repatriate disadvantaged citizens, with domestic pandemic situation and quarantine capacity taken into account.

So far, Viet Nam has organized 102 special flights, bringing home 25,779 citizens stranded abroad due to Covid-19./.
