Int'l arrivals to VN keep falling in first seven months

Some 3.8 million foreigners entered Viet Nam in the first seven months, a year-on-year decline of 61.6%, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Asian visitors accounted for the lion’s share, 73%, down 63.9% year-on-year.

During in January-July, Arrivals from most major markets, including China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan, declined substantially, with only those from Cambodia rising, by 88.9%. Tourists from Europe fell 48.7% year-on-year.

In July alone, 139,000 foreigners arrived in Viet Nam, mainly by road, a month-on-month increase of 8.7% but down 98.9% against the same period last year, as the country has yet to open its doors to international tourists.

Viet Nam started to ban flights from mainland China and its territories in February after the coronavirus breakout and gradually closed its borders with more countries.

The country only authorized some repatriation flights to bring Vietnamese citizens home. Foreigners are allowed to enter in some exceptional cases.
