Passengers on the flight are mainly children under 18, pregnant women, the elderly, people with chronic diseases, tourists and workers with expired  visas.

As these nations have put in place travel restrictions, the Vietnamese Embassies in South Africa and Mozambique worked with the host authorities to support Vietnamese citizens to travel between these nations.

All the passengers and crew members received health check-ups and were quarantined in line with the country's regulations upon their arrival.

The flight, conducted by the South African Airways, also brought South African citizens from Viet Nam and Thailand home.

According to the official data of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Viet Nam has conducted 26 special flights to bring home 6,679 citizens from foreign countries and territories since April 24 and more repatriation flights are expected in the coming time.

As of early June 17, Viet Nam had 335 COVID-19 patients, including 195 imported cases, said the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

Of the patient tally, 325 have been freed of the virus, accounting for 97%, the committee added./.
