Of the total confirmed patients so far, 184 are imported cases who were quarantined immediately after arriving in Viet Nam.

The nation is medically monitoring 12,987 people who had been in close contact with positive cases or returned from foreign countries, including 307 at hospitals, 7,633 at centralized quarantine camps and 5,047 at places of residence, said the committee.

The number of recovered patients reached 264, accounting for 82% of the patient tally. The current active cases are being treated at nine medical facilities at central and provincial levels, with 27 at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ha Noi, 17 at the Bac Lieu General Hospital, and 6 at the Thai Binh General Hospital.

Regarding British COVID-19 patient numbered 91, who is the sickest case in Viet Nam, the committee said he has no fever, his blood pressure is stable, and his lungs function better.

However, he is still dependent on a life support machine called Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) as his health conditions remain critical.

He has been tested five times since May 7 with the same negative outcomes. He has been in extensive care unit at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases before any possible lung transplant at the Cho Ray Hospital in the city./.
