Deputy PM Minh holds phone talks with Italian FM

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio discussed ways to beef up bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries during their phone talks on Tuesday.

Luigi spoke highly of Viet Nam’s success in containing the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed thanks to the Government and people of Viet Nam for having donated medical supplies recently to his country.

Meanwhile, Minh briefed about the outcomes of Viet Nam’s COVID-19 fight, affirming the nation will continue working closely with Italy and the international community in curbing the pandemic.

He also thanked Italy for having facilitated repatriation of Vietnamese citizens and wished that both countries would continue collaboration to support their citizens in the time to come.

Underlining the significance of the Viet Nam-Italy strategic partnership, the pair agreed to resume the exchange of delegations once the COVID-19 situation is put under control and strengthen dialogue mechanisms to ensure effectiveness of the bilateral ties.

Both sides vowed to continue close coordination over international issues and foster ASEAN-Italy relations as Viet Nam is the current ASEAN Chair and non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the tenure 2020-2021.

Deputy PM, FM Minh took the occasion to invite the Italian Foreign Minister to pay an official visit to Viet Nam and the latter accepted the invitation with pleasure./.
