VGP – Viet Nam has kept close watch on the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on regional supply chain and been ready to faciliate ASEAN+3 countries' exchanges on how to restart economic recovery in the region.

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh holds phone call with Secretary-General of ASEAN Lim Jock Hoi on May 6, 2020.

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh made that statement during his phone call with ASEAN Secretary-General Lim Jock Hoi on May 6 on a plan to recover the economy and maintain the regional supply chain in the post-coronavirus period.

The pair also discussed measures to realize the directions of senior leaders at the recent Special ASEAN and ASEAN+3 Summits on the COVID-19 response.

As the current ASEAN Chair, Viet Nam advocates and is willing to facilitate exchanges within the framework of the ASEAN+3 to make plans for recovering the economy and preventing negative impacts of COVID-19 as directed by senior leaders of ASEAN+3, affirmed Anh.

Both Anh and Lim Jock Hoi consented that ASEAN nations and three partners namely China, Japan and the Republic of Korea should work to quickly agree on contents of and approve the ASEAN+3 Ministerial-level Joint Statement on COVID-19 response in the upcoming time.

The Vietnamese Minister expressed his gratitude to the Secretary-General for backing Viet Nam to uphold its role as the ASEAN Chair and the country’s proposals to push for adoption of the joint statement of the 26th ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) Retreat in response to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the ASEAN-Japan Economic Ministers' Joint Statement on Initiatives on Economic Resilience in Response to the COVID-19 Outbreak.

He also referred to the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s decision permitting the temporary removal of restrictions on export of medical equipment such as masks and resuming rice exports since May to ensure food supply in the ASEAN Community in accordance with the joint statements approved by the ASEAN Economic Ministers.
