COVID-19 infection cases in VN touch 222

VGP – The Ministry of Health has reported four more COVID-19 infection cases in Viet Nam, raising the total number to 222.

Of the four latest cases, one is a family member of a patient at Bach Mai Hospital and three Vietnamese expats. 

Patient 219 is a 59-year-old female from Hung Yen province.

On March 16, she took care of a patient who was in the same room with "Patient 133" at the Neurology Department of Bach Mai Hospital.

Patient 133, a 66-year-old woman from the northern province of Lai Chau, was confirmed positive for the virus on March 24 after having her heart ailment treated at the Bach Mai hospital for three weeks.   

On March 25,  when learning about the infection case in the hospital Neurology Department, patient 219 immediately came to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ha Noi’s Dong Anh District for medical checks.

Patient 220 is a 20-year-old man returning from France on March 17. He was sent to a quarantine camp in Ha Noi’s Thach That District before starting to have COVID-19 symptoms of fever and cough on March 22. 

Patient 221 is a 24-year-old overseas student from Canada. She went back to Viet Nam on March 24 on a flight transiting in Chinese Taipei, and has been quarantined at an army facility in the northern province of Vinh Phuc. Her test came out as positive on March 30. 

Patient 222 is a 28-year-old woman in Phuc Loi Commune, Long Bien District of Ha Noi. 

The patient lives and works in the U.S. She flew home on March 20 and tested positive two days later.

As of early April 2, 64 out of the total infection cases have been cleared of the virus and discharged from hospitals.

On April 1, the PM declared Covid-19 a national epidemic as infections have been reported in 25 out of 63 cities and provinces./.
