PM Phuc highlights Army's role in COVID-19 combat

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that the Army has always been the mainstay of the nation and its core role has always been further promoted during war or pandemic time.

The Government chief made the statement during his inspection tour to examine the Army’s COVID-19 prevention and combat on Sunday afternoon.

He extended affectionate greetings to all military officers and soldiers who are working devotedly and demonstrating high sense of responsibility in border areas, quarantine facilities and other places in the common fight against the pandemic.

The Army has mobilized hundreds of thousands of military officers and soldiers to support tens of thousands of quarantined people regardless of day or night, sunny or rainy day, Phuc emphasized.

The Army’s participation in the pandemic combat has consolidated public trust, highlighted the PM.

He also commended for the Army’s achievements in scientific and technological research and development, including coordinated production of COVID-19 test kits.

Phuc called on the Army to make greater efforts in managing quarantine work nationwide so that the Army can successfully fulfill its tasks assigned by the Party and the State.

As many as 34,734 people have been quarantined at the military facilities, of the total, 17,910 completed mandatory 14-day quarantine, according to Sen. Lieut. Gen. Tran Don, Deputy Minister of National Defense.

The Army has put in place 109 out of total 140 quarantine facilities that can accommodate 44,718 people, according to Don.

The Army has 30 hospitals with 977 beds for infectious diseases and the figure can be increased to 2,429, the Deputy Minister of National Defense added.

He stressed that the Army, under any circumstances, must always be ready at forefront of the COVID-19 combat./.
