Chinese Taipei, Malaysia temporarily suspend receiving Vietnamese guest workers

VGP – Chinese Taipei and Malaysia have temporarily suspended the reception of guest workers, including those from Viet Nam.

The Department of Overseas Labor under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs said that from March 19, Taiwan imposes a ban on entry for foreign citizens. The ban will extend unlimitedly until Taiwan makes the next announcement. 

Earlier, the Department informed labor exporters to Taiwan that guest workers should stay calm and not be in a hurry to implement exit procedures before Taiwan makes any new announcement. 

Earlier, Taiwan announced medical quarantine of guest workers due to COVID-19 outbreaks around the globe with alert levels upgraded in dozens of countries, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand.

In addition, the Malaysian Government also announced national lockdown which includes ‘restriction of movement order’ starting from March 18 to March 31.

All business premises have to be shut down, except for outlets such as supermarkets and grocery stores selling daily essentials.

All childcare centers, government and private schools, boarding schools, international schools, and other secondary, primary and pre-university institutions are closed.  

On March 18, the Department tasked labor exports to discuss with their partners to protect Vietnamese guest workers; prevent disease infection./.
