Gov't sticks to dual missions amid COVID-19 outbreak

VGP – The Government will continue drastic measures to control and prevent Covid-19 epidemic while trying its best to realize the socio-economic development goals set for 2020, according to the Cabinet’s latest resolution.

From that perspective, the Government regards combating the epidemic as especially important task, thus ministries, agencies and localities must take active and comprehensive approach and stand ready to accept economic losses in order to protect lives and health of citizens.

The Ministry of Health was tasked to update scenarios in order to take prompt measures to deal with possible situations in the future.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is assigned to join hands with the Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies to closely coordinate with China, other nations, international partners, and the World Health Organization to update international measures in the fight against the epidemic and to facilitate trade and investment.

Each of ministries, agencies and localities must keep a close eye on the situations to evaluate and quantify impacts of the Covid-19 epidemic on each sector and field, especially trade, agriculture, industry, transportation, and services.

The Government asked ministries, agencies and localities to put forwards solutions to mitigate adverse impacts of the disease, particularly the solutions to accelerate disbursement of public investment capital and progress of major projects like Trung Luong-My Thuan Highway, North-South Expressway, and Long Thanh International Airport.

Over the past time, the Government has responded quickly to the Covid-19 outbreak with a series of drastic measures put in place, including the declaration of the acute respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus (Covid-19) as an epidemic in Viet Nam on February 1 and the establishment of a steering committee for Covid-19 prevention and control on January 31, 2020.
