National steering committee on implementation of strategy for sustainable development of marine economy established

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has signed Decision No. 203/QD-TTg on establishment of the national steering committee for implementation of the strategy for the sustainable development of Viet Nam's marine economy by 2030, with a vision to 2045.

The inter-agency committee will be headed by the Government chief and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment is the permanent deputy head of the committee.

Other deputy heads are Minister of Planning and Investment and Minister of Finance.  

The committee is responsible for assisting the PM in directing and coordinating the implementation major works related to the sustainable development of Viet Nam's marine economy.

It is also tasked to organize the implementation of the master plan and the five-year plan of the Government on the implementation of Resolution on the strategy for the sustainable development of Viet Nam's marine economy by 2030, with a vision to 2045 (Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW) approved at the eighth session of the 12th Party Central Committee.

Earlier on October 22, 2018, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong signed the Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW figuring out the goal to turn Viet Nam into a strong marine country by 2030.

By 2045, Viet Nam will become a powerful maritime country with sustainable, prosperous, secured and safe development; the marine economy will make important contributions to the national economy, contributing to turning the country into a modern industrial nation with socialist orientation; proactively and responsibly participating in addressing international and regional issues on the sea and the ocean.

Viet Nam has nearly 1km of coastline per 100 square kilometers of its territory, 6 times higher than the global average. This is a leading indicator in the world, contributing to affirming that Viet Nam is really a country with huge potential and advantages from the sea./.
