As of February 4, the Military Command of the northern province of Lang Son receives 169 Vietnamese citizens aged from 1 to 45 returning home from China.

These people have got initial health checks and quarantined for 14 days as recommended by the World Health Organization to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (nCoV) epidemic.

A meeting took place the same day in Lang Son to discuss measures in response to the nCoV epidemic and figuring out plans to receive Vietnamese citizens working and studying in China.

Accordingly, the Lang Son Provincial People’s Committee has decided to stop festivals while the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has required tourist agencies to suspend tours to epidemic-affected areas.

The province has prepared for welcoming around 1,400 Vietnamese people returning home from China.

Lang Son province is the first point in the Vietnamese territory of the Nanning (China)-Lang Son-Ha Noi-Hai Phong and the Nanning (China)-Lang Son-Ha Noi-Ho Chi Minh City-Moc Bai economic corridors.

It is also a gateway connecting ASEAN countries with China’s Guangxi market and southern China in the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) through two international border gates (Huu Nghi road border gate and Dong Dang railway border gate), Chi Ma national border gate and nine auxiliary border gates.

At a meeting on the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese to return home from China.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Security shall coordinate with ministries and border provinces to strictly control immigration at border gates and border crossings while the Ministry of Transport shall create favorable conditions for Chinese nationals to return to their country and Vietnamese people shall not travel to the epidemic-hit regions in China.
