Australia supports Viet Nam to successfully assume its dual role: Ambassador

The newly accredited diplomat made the remark during a reception hosted by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh in Ha Noi on January 21.

She said relations between Viet Nam and Australia are growing finely, emphasizing that there are firm foundations for the two countries to continue accelerating bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

At the meeting, Politburo member Minh evaluated that the Viet Nam-Australia strategic partnership is growing positively across various fields and in both the bilateral and multilateral domains.

He thanked and spoke highly of Australia’s official development assistance (ODA) in the fields of Australia’s priorities and Vietnam’s focuses, especially infrastructure development, hailing the My Thuan and Cao Lanh Bridge projects in the Mekong Delta as the two typical examples of the effective use of Australia’s ODA loans.

In terms of economic and trade cooperation, Deputy PM Minh said the two countries have numerous conditions to further accelerate the field, as they both support the free trade system, are signatories to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and are participating in the negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

On the occasion, the deputy PM asked Australia to continue opening the door to Vietnamese fruits in the context that Viet Nam is also importing a large volume of fruits from Australia, particularly during the country’s traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

Regarding international cooperation, he highly appreciated the collaboration and coordination between the two countries in the ASEAN and United Nations frameworks and in peacekeeping operations, as well as Australia’s support for the maintenance of ASEAN’s solidarity and central role./.
