Gov’t prepares for Tet holidays

The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that purchasing power was positive and expected to increase by 10-12% against the same period last year. 

Total value of Tet reserve goods increased by 20-25% against the previous month. The amount of reserve goods benefiting from the price stabilization program increased by 10% against the previous year. Domestic enterprises usually reserve essential goods such as rice, poultry, eggs, sugar, oil, processed food, cookies, jams, candies, wine, beer, beverage, and petrol. 

The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that livestock business enterprises and distributors pledged to reduce pork prices. 

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs reported that as of January 17, 40 out of 63 provinces and cities reported wage payment and bonus payment for laborers on Tet holidays (25,000 enterprises and 3.15 million laborers). Accordingly, in 2019, average wage increase was estimated at VND 7.8 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 6.8%. About 89.3% of enterprises reported Tet rewards for employees with an average level of a monthly wage (over VND 6.7 million per person). 

The Ministry of Transport said that the number of passengers have not fluctuated in comparison with the same period last year and was estimated at 12 million. The number of flights was projected to total nearly 73,000 with about 2,350 flights per day. 

Addressing the event, PM Phuc praised ministries, sectors, and localities for applying specific measures to produce more reserve goods; keep pork price stable; and reduce traffic congestion. 
Ministries and agencies especially enterprises were asked to ensure wage payment and Tet rewards for laborers.

The Government chief noticed the importance of ensuring adequate commodities, food hygiene, and transport safety; combating trade frauds, trafficking; and guaranteeing fire prevention./.
