Top legislator meets with Lao counterpart

VGP – The cooperation between the Vietnamese and Lao National Assemblies has become practical and effective, serving to promote the friendship between the two countries, said Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

The Vietnamese top legislator met with her Lao counterpart Pany Yathotou on January 9 in Ha Noi.

The host leader highlighted the special meaning of the visit, adding that the cooperation between the Vietnamese and Lao National Assemblies has become practical and effective, serving to promote the friendship among the two countries. 

The host leader highly spoke of successful workshops conducted by the two national assemblies over the past time. She suggested the two sides continue to organize other workshops to share operation experience. 

Ms. Ngan agreed to send a Vietnamese expert group to share customs experience with Laos. 

In reply, Chairwoman Pany Yathotou took the occasion to congratulate Viet Nam on taking the ASEAN Chairmanship and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Chair in 2020.   

The guest leader proposed the two sides create favorable conditions for free migrants across the shared border lines.

Chairwoman Pany Yathotou said that Laos is researching to amend the Law on Customs and hopes to learn Vietnamese experience on the field. The Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam and the Lao Supreme People's Procuracy lately inked the Agreement on Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters. Hence, the guest leader suggested the legislative bodies supervise the field. 

On this occasion, the two top legislators briefed each other on the implementation of socio-economic development plans in 2019./.
