Vietnamese irrigation strategy passed

VGP – Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung has recently ratified the Vietnamese irrigation strategy by 2030 with a vision towards 2045.

The strategy aims to ensure water supply for domestic demands, agricultural production, and socio-economic sectors, in urban areas, industrial areas, economic zones, and high-tech zones, especially areas which frequently suffer from water shortage such as the Central Coast, the Central Highlands Region, the Mekong Delta Region, environmental protection, protection of aquatic ecosystems, as well as sustainable development. 

The strategy targets to actively provide water for paddy cultivation areas. 

In addition, the strategy also centers to prevent natural disasters; respond the climate change; deal with droughts, water shortage, saltwater instruction, floods as well as landslides.  

The strategy sets a series of measures on mechanism perfection, policies, law enforcement on irrigation, apparatus improvement, manpower development, planning quality, irrigation work investment, and specific solutions to each region. 

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is in charge of crafting an action plan, programs, and projects to realize the strategy./.
