Petroleum, cars imports into VN soar

VGP – Viet Nam spent around US$16.44 billion importing crude oil, petroleum, coal and cars in 2019, according to the statistics of the General Department of Customs. 

In December 2019, as many as 8,000 cars were imported, worth US$140 million, raising the total number of imported cars in the year to 142,000 ones, valued US$3.1 billion, up 71% in number and 69.4% in value compared to the previous year. 

Around 9.76 million tons of petroleum were imported during the year, with the estimated value of US$5.93 billion. 

A total number of 7.68 tons of crude oil, worth US$3.62 billion and 43.5 million tons of coal, valued at US$3.79 billion were imported.

The nation mainly exported ores and other minerals, timber and wood products, clinker and cement, coal and crude oil, of which the exports of timber and wooden products took the lead with US$10.5 billion, up 18.2%. 

In 2019, the nation earned US$263.45 billion from exports and enjoyed the trade surplus of US$9.94 billion. 

The State budget gained from export and import activities in 2019 was estimated at VND350,000 billion, up 11.3%.
