Gov’t sets up National Committee responsible for elimination of tuberculosis by 2030

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has signed a decision on establishment of National Committee on Tuberculosis Prevention and Control, led by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

The Government chief assigned Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son and Vice President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee Truong Thi Ngoc Anh as Vice Chairpersons of the Committee.

Members of the Committee include leaders of several ministries such as Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The Ministry of Health shall function as the permanent body of the Committee which is responsible for figuring out strategy to realize the goal of eliminating tuberculosis by 2030.

Viet Nam is in the world’s top 30 countries with high tuberculosis rates and around 12,000 people die from tuberculosis annually.

It is estimated that 124,000 new tuberculosis cases are detected each year./.
