The Government chief spoke highly of the EU’s East Sea stance of supporting safety, security and freedom of navigation and aviation and abiding by international law in the East Sea.

As Viet Nam will assume the double role of the ASEAN Chair and non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council next year, Phuc expressed his hope that the Viet Nam-EU cooperation will continue growth trajectory.

Phuc said he wishes the diplomat will have a successful working tenure in Viet Nam and become a good friend of Viet Nam, contributing to raise the two-way trade to at least US$50 billion.

Ambassador Aliberti said the Viet Nam-EU has entered the best stage and this is a challenge for him to further elevate the bilateral ties, especially in implementing the trade and investment deals signed last June.

The diplomat affirmed the EU backs Viet Nam’s stance on the East Sea issue on the basis of respect for international law.
