No Vietnamese casualties reported in Hong Kong

VGP – Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang clarified information related to citizen protection in Hong Kong, China, 39 bodies in the UK and deaths of Vietnamese in the Republic of Korea (RoK) at the regular press briefing on November 21 in Ha Noi.

Regarding the citizen protection in Hong Kong (China), Hang said that the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau have kept a close eye on the recent development in Hong Kong and actively launched citizen protection measures. 

The Vietnamese Consulate General has established a hotline for any emergency case to be faced by Vietnamese citizens to contact and connect with the Vietnamese students and community in Hong Kong as well as supported and joined hands with functional agencies of Hong Kong and Viet Nam to send 40 Vietnamese students, masters and doctoral students to safely come back home. 

Until now, the hotline has not received any information about loss in both of human and assets of the Vietnamese students and community in Hong Kong. 

The Consulate General has been updating information relevant to Vietnamese citizens and students in Hong Kong and is willing to assist and launch citizen protection measures in necessary and required cases. 

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends Vietnamese citizens travelling to Hong Kong obey the local functional agencies’ guidance and limit visiting crowded areas to prevent unfortunate risks. 

To receive support in necessary case, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong has provided hotline:   85225914510and the hotline for citizen protection in Viet Nam:  84981848484.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs proposes Hong Kong’s authorities realize measures to ensure security and safety for Vietnamese citizens living, studying and working in Hong Kong. 

*When asked about recent developments in the case of 39 Vietnamese bodies in container in the UK, the Spokesperson said that: Currently, Vietnamese functional agencies are actively coordinating with the British side to support the families of victims in burial observances in line with humanitarian spirit, international laws and laws and customs of Viet Nam and the UK. 

Relevant agencies from both sides are joining hands to complete funeral issues as soon as possible and early announce specific information in the upcoming time. 

*Updating information about six missing Vietnamese sailors in a boat caught fire in waters west of the RoK’s southern resort island of Jeju, Hang said that: Following the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK has urgently coordinated with the RoK’s functional agencies to update the information and propose the RoK’s side to actively carry out search and rescue works. 

The RoK’s Government affirmed to pay attention to and guide and mobilize highest resources for search and rescue works to search for missing victims, adding that they will coordinate with the Vietnamese side in launching citizen protection measures.  

The Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK continues to work closely with representatives of labor dispatch businesses in the RoK to update the situations and announce the families of victims, willing to realize citizen protection measures when necessary.
