Gov’t chief receives Japanese guest

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception for President of the East Asian Community Institute of Japan Hatoyama Yukio on November 12 in Ha Noi.

PM Phuc took the occasion to thank the positive contribution of Mr.  Hatoyama, who is the former Japanese PM and former chairman of the Japan-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance to the bilateral ties. Specifically, the guest leader attended many forums and workshops on Viet Nam’s technology development, organized charity programs presenting wheelchairs to people with disabilities in Viet Nam.

The Vietnamese PM stressed that the Viet Nam-Japan strategic partnership is developing strongly across the fields, particularly economic, trade and investment cooperation.

He praised Mr. Hatoyama for numerous initiatives which served to boost the bilateral ties in various areas such as manpower training and infrastructure construction. The host leader was convinced that the guest leader would make positive contribution to nurturing the bilateral ties. 

In reply, Hatoyama expressed his pleasure at the robust cooperation between the two countries. He also showed interest in the building of infrastructure in the form of public-private partnership (PPP) which is being discussed by the Vietnamese National Assembly.

So far, Japan is the largest provider of ODA for Viet Nam and the second largest foreign investor in the country, as well as the fourth largest trade partner. Over 1.2 million Vietnamese and Japanese people visited each other. The Vietnamese community in Japan has numbered more than 370,000, becoming the third biggest foreign community in Japan./.
