VN to take over ASEAN Chairmanship from Thailand in early November

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh required quick completion of preparation work as Viet Nam will take over the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 from Thailand since early November 2019.

Minh stressed the point at the 4th meeting of the National ASEAN 2020 Committee in Ha Noi on October 18.

Present at the meeting included Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh-Vice Chairman of the National ASEAN 2020 Committee, members of the Committee, heads of sub-committees and Secretariat.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung highlighted preparations have been undertaken as planned.

Dung, who is Secretary General of the National ASEAN 2020 Committee, said the remaining tasks include finalization of the website of ASEAN Chair Year, plans for communication and major events in 2020.

He also suggested completion of plans for upcoming events, including a ceremony to take over the role of ASEAN Chairmanship from Thailand and ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat.

The Committee reviewed and approved the logo and identity of the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020, which will be officially introduced to other ASEAN countries and partners at the 35th ASEAN Summit and related summits scheduled to take place in Thailand from October 31-November 4, 2019.  

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Minh, who is Chairman of the National ASEAN 2020 Committee, spoke highly of the efforts of sub-committees, Secretariat, ministries, agencies and relevant localities in preparations for Viet Nam’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2020.

He asked for serious realization of the master plan on Viet Nam’s assumption of the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 and the detailed plans on content, communications-culture, reception, logistics and security-healthcare./.
