VN hosts first-ever meeting with Middle East, African Ambassadors

The event, held by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, drew the participation of heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of international organizations, including United Nations, World Bank, and European Union, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and business representatives from Viet Nam, the Middle East and Africa.

This is an opportunity for both sides to seek ways to promote the role of diplomatic missions in fostering connectivity between Viet Nam and the region.

It also creates a platform for face-to-face exchanges between the region’s diplomatic missions with Vietnamese businesses on ways to further boost trade and investment ties.

The participants will focus on reviewing cooperation between Viet Nam and the region, discussing measures to enhance two-way trade and cooperation in agriculture and telecommunication.

They will also tour the Viet Nam Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Viettel Group which has made contributions to the impressive development of telecommunication sector in some African countries.

By now, Viet Nam has established diplomatic relations with 69 out of 70 countries and has trade ties with all countries in the region with the two-way trade volume increasing by 300% from 2008 to US$17.5 billion last year.

In terms of investment, Viet Nam has poured US$2.6 billion in the region while luring over US$7 billion from the Middle East and African countries.

The Southeast Asian country has successfully deployed a number of bilateral, tri-partite cooperation models in agriculture, healthcare, and education with the support of some advanced countries and international organizations in Africa.

The Middle East and Africa group of 70 countries with the overall population of 1.6 billion.

Seventeen countries in the region have opened Embassy in Ha Noi, namely Iran, Israel, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Angola, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria and South Africa./.
