VN supports Russian companies to expand oil exploration in continental shelf

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung affirmed Viet Nam supports Russian companies to expand oil and gas exploration activities in the Southeast Asian country’s continental shelf in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Dung made the above statement at his meeting with Russian counterpart M. Akimov in Vladivostok on Thursday.

He also asked the Russian Government to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese joint ventures to participate in potential oil projects in Russia.

 Akimo welcomed Dung to the Eastern Economic Forum, saying the latter’s presence at the event reflects the depth and diversify of the Viet Nam-Russia relations.

Both sides highly valued the activities jointly organized by their ministries and agencies within the Viet Nam-Russia Cross Year 2019-2020, which have contributed to accelerating mutual understanding and cooperation between the nations.

The two Deputy PMs agreed that both countries have actively realized the outcomes of their senior leaders’ visits but more efforts needed to further utilize opportunities of the Viet Nam-Eurasian Economic Union free trade agreement in a bid to lift up bilateral trade to US$10 billion by 2020.

They agreed to co-chair the 22nd meeting of the Viet Nam-Russia Inter-governmental Committee in early October this year.

After the meeting, the two Deputy PMs witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two construction ministries and a Memorandum of Understanding on opening direct air route between Cam Ranh (Khanh Hoa province) and Vladivostok./.
