Hoi An ancient town's 20-year UNESCO World Heritage Site celebration to be held next month

VGP – The central province of Quang Nam’s People’s Committee on August 21 organized a press conference announcing activities on the celebration of the 20th anniversary of recognition of Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the 10th anniversary of recognition of Cham Islands as the World Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO.

Hoi An ancient town

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam’s People’s Committee Le Van Thanh said that the event aims to communicate and introduce the image of Quang Nam Province in general, Hoi An ancient town, My Son Sanctuary and Cu Lao Cham Islands in particular to foreign and domestic visitors, thus promoting tourism development and attracting more investment in the province. 

It also heads to improve the awareness of and consensus among community to join hands in conserving and upholding the cultural and natural values. 

Accordingly, a number of activities will be jointly held in September by the province’s People’s Committee, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, UNESCO Ha Noi Office. 

The occasion, a series of cultural, art, sport, tourism and exhibition activities will also be organized from September 7-15.
