Top leader meets with Lao counterpart

The two leaders agreed to work together to nurture and promote the traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries to new heights, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The pair briefed each other about recent development in respective countries, including Party building work and preparations for Party congresses at all level towards the National Party Congresses.

The also exchanged on fresh situations in the region and the world as well as measures to further foster the Viet Nam – Laos special ties in the coming time.

Trade between the two countries rose by about 13% annually between 2015 and 2018 to over US$1.03 billion in 2018, up 11.9% year on year.

The figure is estimated at US$594 million in the first half of 2019, up 14%, according to the General Department of Viet Nam Customs.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese investors have poured US$5.1 billion into 292 projects in Laos, including 110 worth US$2.7 billion in the 10 Lao provinces bordering Viet Nam, reported the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment./.
