Trade Deputy Minister to attend 8th ministerial inter-sessional conference of RCEP in China

VGP – Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh will lead a Vietnamese delegation to attend the 8th ministerial inter-sessional conference of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) in Beijing, China from August 2-3.

July 31, 2019 4:20 PM GMT+7

RCEP is a proposed free trade agreement between the 10 ASEAN members and the six Asia-Pacific countries with which ASEAN has free trade agreements -- Australia, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea and New Zealand.

The Vietnamese delegation includes representatives of the Ministries of Industry and Trade, Finance, Planning and Investment.

This is the second RCEP ministerial conference to be organized in 2019. The first one was held in March this year in Siem Riep, Cambodia.

The event takes place in the context of free trade facing a number of challenges since the global financial crisis in 2008, especially after the U.S. withdrew from the Trans-Pacific Partnership in 2017.

With economic advantages, a comprehensive RCEP is being negotiated on the basis of fairness and quality. Once the RCEP is completed and takes effect, it will be an agreement based on sharing common benefits in the multi-lateral cooperation.

The 27th round of RCEP negotiations will be held between July 22 and 31 in Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province.
