M&A transactions hit nearly US$2 bln in first half

With the theme “Going for breakthrough”, the event has been co-organized by Viet Nam Investment Review (VIR) and AVM Viet Nam since 2009 under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Value of M&A deals in 2018 totaled US$7.64 billion, or 74.9% of 2017. In the first half of 2019, M&A transactions were worth US$1.9 billion, accounting for 53% of the amount recorded in the same time last year. 

More than 4,350 M&A deals worth US$48.8 billion were executed in Viet Nam during the past decade (2009-2018).

The year 2017 witnessed an M&A boom with a total value of transactions amounting to US$10.2 billion, a growth of 175% over 2016.

The market size in 2017 increased by nine-fold against 2008, of which the record deal of the decade was US$4.8 billion that ThaiBev (Thailand) paid for a 51% stake in Sai Gon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corp (Sabeco).

The M&A value in 2019 is expected to hit US$6.7 billion in 2019, equal to 88.16% of the previous year.
