PM meets Russian President among other foreign leaders at G20 Summit

• PM meets world leaders on G20 Summit sidelines

At the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the two leaders agreed to foster the realization of  the agreements reached during high-ranking official visits, especially the Vietnamese PM’s visit to Russia in June 2019 and further promote the comprehensive strategic partnership in a practical and effective manner. especially in spheres of energy, petrol and high-technology.

Australian PM Scott Morrison highly spoke of the developments in Viet Nam-Australia relations, affirming commitments of the Australian Government to push forward the two nations’ strategic partnership to a higher level in all fields.

He pledged to support Viet Nam to successfully take over its role as the Chair of ASEAN in 2020 and expect to strengthen the relationship with ASEAN through ASEAN Plus One mechanism.

The Australian leader consented with PM Phuc’s proposal on close coordination in launching the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and in completing negotiations of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

The two sides discussed international and regional issues of common concerns, including consolidating peace, stability and freedom of navigation and aviation in the region. The Vietnamese PM invited his Australian counterpart to visit to Viet Nam soon.  

German Chancellor Angela Merkel highly appraised effective exchanges on measures to boost the two nations’ strategic partnership. The two leaders asserted their commitments to strongly realizing measures to advance their strategic partnership more intensively and practically in the upcoming time.

During the meeting with President of the RoK Moon Jae In, the two sides agreed to take measures to promote the bilateral relationship and join hands in addressing international and regional issues of mutual concerns, including the Korean Peninsula denuclearization.

WB President David Malpass highly valued Viet Nam’s achievements in socio-economic development, poverty reduction and infrastructure development, affirming his resolve to continue support for the country not only in specific investment projects but also in sustainable development and policy consulation.

ADB President Takehiko Nakao spoke highly of the strong development of Viet Nam’s economy, regarding the nation as a good model in sustainable development, macro-economic management, particularly public debt management and reduction.

He confirmed that the ADB will strengthen cooperation with Viet Nam, especially providing loans for infrastructure development, social development and restructuring.

The ADB President suggested the two sides soon sign loan agreements in health care and human resource development worth US$255 million, adding that the ADB expects to provide a loan valued at US$315 million for the nation to launch projects on enhancing climate change adaption capacity and improving urban environment.

Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres congratulated Viet Nam on wining the non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021 tenure.

He expressed his belief that Viet Nam will play a positive role in the United Nations Security Council and highly valued Viet Nam’s responsibility in contributing to peace and stability in the world, including sending more military officers to join the United Nations peacekeeping operations in South Sudan, asserting to back the country to fulfill its tasks as the UN non-permanent member.

The two sides exchanged on issues related to security and development in the region and the world as well as measures to boost cooperation between the UN and ASEAN in 2020 as Viet Nam becomes the Chair of ASEAN.

PM Phuc invited the Secretary-General of the United Nations to visit Viet Nam and attend activities of ASEAN in 2020 and the latter gladly accepted.
