Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung meets  with Lao PM Thongloun Sisoulith and Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotou, Vientiane, June 25, 2019

At the meetings, the Lao leaders expressed their pleasure at the fine development of the friendly relations and cooperation between the two Parties and countries, while speaking highly of the outcomes of recent high-level visits between the two sides.

They warmly congratulated Viet Nam on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021 with a record number of votes, voicing their belief that the victory and the assumption of the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 will enable Viet Nam to affirm its increasingly important role and position in ASEAN, the region and the world.

Meeting with PM Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy PM Dung asked the Lao government to maintain the regular exchange of high-level visits and meetings across different channels and forms, accelerate practical cooperation in various spheres, and seriously fulfill the agreements reached by the two countries’ senior leaders, particularly the outcomes of the 41st meeting of the Viet Nam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee.

The Lao PM agreed to continue creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to seek investment opportunities and implement their projects in Laos.

During his meeting with Chairwoman of the National Assembly Pany Yathotou, Deputy PM Dung informed the top Lao legislator on Viet Nam’s recent implementation steps in the construction of the new Lao National Assembly Building project, affirming that the Vietnamese government attaches great importance to such a crucial project.

He asked the Lao parliament to enhance supervision and create favorable conditions so that the Viet Nam-invested projects in Laos be implemented in an effective manner and in accordance with the committed contract and the Lao law.

For her part, Chairwoman Yathotou expressed her satisfaction at the outcomes of her recent visit to Viet Nam, voicing her delight to see the unceasingly strengthened ties between the two parliaments, particularly their close coordination at regional and international parliamentary forums, such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
