VN supports Myanmar’s national reconciliation and development process

VGP – Vice President of Myanmar Myint Swe spoke highly of Viet Nam’s rising role in the region and the world and congratulated the country on winning non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council in 2020-2021 tenure at his talks with Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue on Monday.

Vice President Myint Swe said Hue’s on-going visit to Myanmar would help further consolidate and enhance the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Deputy PM Hue affirmed Viet Nam attaches importance to expanding ties with Myanmar for the benefits of the two countries and for peace, cooperation and development in ASEAN and in the region.

Both sides expressed pleasure at the fine developments of the bilateral ties across fields, discussing ways to soon increase the two-way trade to US$1 billion as agreed by the two countries’ high-level leaders.

The two sides also exchanged measures to boost cooperation in other sectors like defense-security, energy, telecommunication, agriculture and transport.

The pair welcomed the two countries’ efforts to accelerate the establishment of deputy ministerial-level defense policy dialogue mechanism in 2019, pledging to start talks and sign security and justice cooperation documents at proper time.

Regarding regional and international issues of shared concerns, the two sides underlined the importance of maintaining peace, stability and cooperation for common development and prosperity, coordinating in settlement of common security challenges in the region, including the East Sea issue.

Both sides voiced support for peaceful resolution of disputes in the East Sea with respect to international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, for full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and for early conclusion of an effective and practical Code of Conduct in the East Sea .

The two sides also vowed to continue close coordination at regional and international fora, especially the UN, ASEAN, Non-aligned Movement, ACMECS, CLMV, GMS, EWEC among others.

The same day, Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue met with Myanmar’s State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, during which, Hue reaffirmed Viet Nam’s support for Myanmar’s national reconciliation and development process with increasingly improving status in the region and the world.

The host’s State Counselor suggested both countries should promptly complete action program to realize the Viet Nam-Myanmar comprehensive cooperative partnership for the 2019-2024 period and organize activities to mark the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations (May 28, 1975-2020)./.
