VN asks UNICEF to support prevention of child abuse and violence

Dam made the request at his meeting with new UNICEF Representative to Viet Nam Rana Flowers at the Government Office on Friday.

He went on to say that Viet Nam is developing a national program for prevention of child abuse and violence for 2020-2022 period.

The Government of Viet Nam has made great efforts in improving children-related policies, including adoption of Law on Children in 2016 and program for children protection for 2016-2020  in a bid to create legal framework for children protection and education over the last year.

However, the country is facing with a number of challenges, in which limited resources and big region-to-region development gap are among biggest ones hindering its child protection and education efforts.

Viet Nam-UNICEF cooperation program is underpinned by a commitment to reach every child, particularly the most vulnerable, ensuring that each has a fair chance to reach her or his full potential and benefit from the country’s prosperity.

Rana Flowers officially took up her duty in the Southeast Asian country in May this year. Prior to her appointment, she served as UNICEF Representative in China, Cambodia, Mongolia and Belize, bringing more than 25 years of experience in international development./.
