PM meets Russian upper house leader

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc lauded the significant contributions made by the Vietnamese and Russian legislatures to the dynamic ties between the two countries, while meeting with Chairwoman of the Federation Council (upper house) of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Valentina Ivanovna Matviyenko, in Moscow on May 23.

PM Phuc, who is on an official visit to Russia, welcomed the two parliaments’ maintenance of regular contact and close coordination at international parliamentary forums, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Asia-Europe Women’s Forum, thus contributing to deepening Viet Nam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.

He spoke highly of the effective assistance of the Federation Council, especially of Chairwoman Matviyenko, in boosting collaboration between Vietnamese and Russian localities over recent times.

Localities of both sides have inked many cooperation deals during his current visit, including one between Binh Thuan (Viet Nam) and Kaluga (Russia), the leader informed, asking the Federation Council to continue helping Vietnamese cities and provinces establish cooperative ties with their Russian peers.

For her part, Chairwoman Matviyenko affirmed a high consensus among senior Russian leaders on strengthening the trustworthy comprehensive strategic partnership with Viet Nam, emphasizing the fine and sincere sentiments between the leaders and people of the two countries.

She stated that the Federation Council will continue working with the National Assembly of Viet Nam and the Russian Government to facilitate the effective implementation of agreements and cooperation projects between the two countries, particularly the Eurasian Economic Union – Viet Nam free trade agreement.

The host lauded the organization of the Viet Nam Year in Russia and the Russia Year in Viet Nam with diverse and meaningful activities, which, she said, has contributed to tightening the traditional friendly relations and all-around cooperation between the two countries.

The leaders agreed to create favorable conditions for their citizens’ traveling for enhanced mutual understanding and friendship.

On the occasion, PM Phuc conveyed the greeting and regards from Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan to Chairwoman of the Federation Council Matviyenko.
