VN prioritizes grassroots-level medical stations

VGP – The Vietnamese Government has given a priority to boosting the grassroots-level medical stations and providing better healthcare services for people; regarding these as a foundation for universal healthcare coverage and fulfillment of SDGs, said Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien.

Minister Tien made the point at the 72nd World Health Assembly on May 21 in Geneva, Switzerland.

According to Minister Tien, Viet Nam has an ambitious action plan and solid political commitments to power over 11,000 commune-level medical stations. 

Almost all commune-level medical stations have doctors, nurses, midwives, traditional medicine doctors who focus on strengthening health; preventing diseases; early discovering and treating non-infectious diseases.

Minister Tien also shared that Viet Nam is struggling with financial mechanism on primary healthcare at grassroots level. In addition, the modal of public and private have yet implemented fruitfully. Alcohol and tobacco tax has yet mobilized for healthcare programs./.
