Tough punishment for drunk drivers

The National Traffic Safety Committee cooperated with the Ha Noi municipal People’s committee to launch a walking campaign themed “Drinking alcohol – No driving” on May 12 in Ha Noi. 

Permanent Deputy PM Binh, who is also Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee called upon people to not drive if drinking alcohol. He also affirmed that the State would impose tougher administrative punishment on alcohol concentration infringements. 

Mr. Binh announced that since 2012, thanks to great effort of the whole political system and the support of people, traffic accidents have dropped in both cases, the number of deaths and injuries. Each year in the past, traffic accidents claimed nearly 12,000 lives. However, in 2018, the number decreased to over 8,000.

Nevertheless, it is important for people to stay alert at the fact that traffic accidents daily lead to 21 deaths and 40 injuries. 

Recently, serious traffic accidents took place in Ha Noi due to drunk drivers. 

On this occasion, over 8,000 people including 5,000 public servants took to the streets around the Lake of the Returned Sword (Hoan Kiem Lake) to respond to the campaign on “Drinking alcohol – No driving./.”
