VN’s export of agro-forestry-fishery fetch US$12.4 billion in four months

VGP – According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, export revenues of agro-forestry-fishery products in April is estimated to hit US$3.5 billion, pushing the figure in the first four months of this year to US$12.4 billion, equivalent to the figure recorded in the same period last year.

In the first four months of this year, 46,000 hectares of forests were planted, a year-on-year rise of 1.72%. Timber production reached 6.23 million cubic metres, up 4.4%year on year.

In April, export revenues of farm produce is likely to hit US$1.5 billion, while that of aquatic products was estimated at US$694 million, and livestock reached US$46 million.

Exports of aquatic products in April are likely to reach US$2.48 billion, up 2.4%, including US$635 million from tra fish and US$ 913 million from shrimps.

On the contrary, falls in both export volume and value look set to be recorded in rice, coffee, cassava and cassava products. Export volume of rice dropped 8% and value was down 19%, while the respective fall of coffee were 13% and 19%, and cassava and cassava products were 14% and 3.3%.

Earnings from forestry products and furniture are estimated at US$ 875 million in the month and US$3.27 billion in the first four months, up 17.8% year on year, resulting in a trade surplus of nearly US$ 2.49 billion for the forestry sector.

Key markets for Vietnamese forestry products include the U.S., Japan, the EU, China and the Republic of Korea, which together consume 87% of the products.

Impressive export revenues were seen in rubber (US$559 million), tea (US$ 62 million), fruits and vegetables (US$1.4 billion), cashew nuts (US$ 922 million) and peppercorn (US$288 million).

In the month, Viet Nam imported US$2.68 billion worth of agro-forestry-fishery products and agricultural materials, raising total imports in the four months to US$ 9.7 billion, up 3.2% year on year.

In the period, Viet Nam collected VND755.24 billion in forest environment service fees, up 9% against the same period last year and 23.6% of the yearly target.

The country earned about US$29.54 billion from agro-forestry-fishery exports between January and September, up 9.3% from the same period of 2017 and equivalent to 73% of this year’s target.
