Deputy PM greets Vice President of Seychelles

VGP - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has affirmed that in its integration and development strategies, Viet Nam always attaches importance to expanding cooperation with African countries, including the Republic of Seychelles.

Addressing a reception for visiting Vice President of Seychelles Vincent Meriton in Ha Noi on April 16, Deputy PM Dam congratulated the Seychelles government and people on maintaining a stable environment and harvesting many significant achievements in socio-economic development.

He voiced his delight at the constantly growing relations between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic ties 40 years ago, especially since the Viet Nam visit made by Seychelles  President James Alix Michel in August 2013, stating that Seychelles is one of the African nations with the most investment projects in Viet Nam.

The Deputy PM suggested that the two countries accelerate the exchange of all-level delegations, strengthen people-to-people exchange, and facilitate close cooperation at international forums. He asked Seychelles to support Viet Nam’s bid to become a nonpermanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021 tenure.

Dam highly appreciated the positive role and contributions of Seychelles to the region and the international community, particularly at the African Union (AU) and the United Nations, calling on the country to support Viet Nam to establish relations with the AU in the future.

For his part, Vice President of Seychelles Vincent Meriton shared some contents on the development of green economy and green bond in the exploitation of marine resources, noting that Seychelles wants to become a gateway connecting Africa with economies, including businesses from Viet Nam. 

Viet Nam and the Republic of Seychelles established diplomatic ties on August 16, 1979. The two countries signed an agreement to avoid double taxation in 2005, an agreement on economic, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation in 2010, an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passports in 2011, memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on cooperation between the two foreign ministries and between the two foreign ministries, MoUs between Ha Noi and Victoria city and between the two chambers of commerce and industry, and an aviation cooperation agreement between the two governments.
