VN, Iran to soon raise two-way trade value to US$2 bln

VGP – National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan proposed Viet Nam and Iran enhance close cooperation to soon raise the bilateral trade value to US$2 billion at her meeting with Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Ardeshir Larijani on April 8 in Doha, Qatar.

Viet Nam and Iran had fruitful outcomes from the ninth meeting of their Joint Committee, Ms. Ngan noted, hoping that the two sides will continue coordinating closely to organize the 10th meeting of the committee within the year, and work out solutions to boost bilateral affiliation.

The Vietnamese NA leaders suggested the two countries prioritize the trade of each other’s strong products, deal with payment problems to support trading activities, encourage businesses of both sides to study each other’s market, and promote trade and investment partnership.

Mr. Ali Ardeshir Larijani stressed the need for the two sides to develop collaboration in banking. 

Viet Nam expects Iran will continue its provision of scholarships for Vietnamese students in Persian studies and other sectors; maintain the exchange of lecturers and students among universities; and strengthen ties in culture and tourism by holding painting exhibitions, film screenings, musical performances, and Iranian cultural days in Viet Nam and Vietnamese cultural days in Iran, said Ms. Ngan. 

Mr. Ali Ardeshir Larijani required the two nations to boost exports and imports of fruits, vegetables, agricultural and aquatic products, paying attention to trans-border agricultural cooperation. 

Iran proposed Viet Nam provide technical support in rice cultivation, while fostering partnership in education and customs with Iran, he stated.
