Mr. Dam made the point on April 7 while working with Quang Binh local leaders after surveying community-based tourism model in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.

Secretary of the Quang Binh provincial Party Committee Hoang Dang Quang reported that the locality defined tourism as a spearhead sector ten years ago.

Last year, the central province welcomed 3.9 million guests, representing a year-on-year growth of 18.25%. Specifically, 200,000 foreign tourists travelled to the province, up 53.8% against the same period last year. Total tourism revenue hit VND 4,485 billion, up 20.2% against 2017, contributing 10% of GRDP.

In the first three months of 2019, the province handled 895,000 tourists (up 12.6% against the same period last year) including 56,100 foreigners (up 18.6%). Tourism revenue was estimated at VND 1,000 billion, up 12% against the same period last year.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Le Quang Tung assessed that despite difficulties, the province has allocated resources to conduct tourism promotion especially in such foreign markets as Europe, the U.S., Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

Deputy PM Dam praised Quang Binh for its creative tourism promotion methods including shaking hands with Hollywood film makers, participating in foreign tourism expos and exhibitions; welcoming famous people; utilizing social networks; and introducing adventure tourism.

However, Mr. Dam noticed the importance of preserving the pristine beauty in community-based tourism destinations and protecting the environment./.
