Population and housing census begins

VGP – The 2019 population and housing census kicked off on April 1 with the participation of over 122,000 investigators to collect basic population information and household information.

Under Decision 722/QD-TTg, the census started at 0:00 AM on April 1, 2019. 

All the information to be collected will tell us the implementation of socio-economic plans in 2011-2020. It will serve as the foundation to develop the national strategies and socio-economic plans for 2021-2030.

Furthermore, the census’ results will serve as a foundation to evaluate the implementation of the Resolution of the 12th tenure of the Party Central Committee on the task of population work in the new situation and to monitor all development targets on sustainable development to which the Vietnamese Government has committed. 

In addition, the data of the census will be used to develop a national integrated database on the country’s population. The database will be a very important tool for other purposes, including the country’s population general statistics and other activities in national statistics activities by 2029. 

This year’s national census will collect the info on two groups – general statistics and sample statistics. Questionnaires used for general statistics will have 22 questions, including questions on basic population information and household information such as The census focuses on collecting general information on population; migration status; education and professional level; disability status; marital status; fertility, mortality and population growth rates; birth registration status for newborns; the situation of labor and employment; housing status; and households’ basic living conditions.

General Director of the General Statistics Office Nguyen Bich Lam tasked investigators to seriously obey regulations and responsibly fulfill their assignments.  

The census will be lasting in 25 days./.
