Hang stressed the Malaysian side must ensure fair and objective trial for Huong and she must be released.

Earlier on March 13, Vietnamese Minister of Justice Le Thanh Long sent a letter to Malaysian Attorney General Tommy Thomas in which he asked the Malaysian side to consider freeing Doan Thi Huong.

In a phone talks with Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah on March 12, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh also asked the Malaysian side to ensure fair trial and free Huong.

According to the Japan Times, Huong’s lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik told the court they were disappointed with the attorney general’s decision and said prosecutors were being unfair to Huong.

“It does not bring confidence to our criminal justice system. Very obviously, there is discrimination. The AG favored one party to the other,” Teh said./.
