PM receives Lao NA Chairwoman

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc expected that Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly (NA) Pany Yathotou’s visit to Viet Nam will contribute to consolidating the special relationship between the two nations as well as tightening the cooperative relations between the two Parties, Governments and NAs during their meeting on March 5 in Ha Noi.

The Vietnamese leader expressed his delight on the positive achievements between the two sides over the recent years, especially Party General Secretary, State President Nguyen Phu Trong’s recent official visit to Laos, which is regarded as a crucial step to facilitate the successful realization of bilateral cooperative activities. 

Ms. Pany Yathotou thanked Viet Nam for supporting Laos in a number of areas, particularly power cooperation, appraising Viet Nam’s host of the second DPRK-US summit, which has manifested the crucial role of Viet Nam in establishing and contributing to peace and stability in the world. 

She said that the two nations’ NAs will actively seek for cooperative measures to enhance the effectiveness of their legislative bodies, expressing her thanks for the Vietnamese Government and PM for helping Laos overcome consequences of hydroelectric dam collapse in Attapeu. 

For his side, PM Phuc asserted that Viet Nam will make efforts to boost the bilateral trade value and create favorable conditions for Laos to exploit Vung Ang Port as well as promote local-to-local exchanges, planning and investment, diplomacy, security and defense with Laos. 

In the time ahead, he suggested the two NAs continue maintaining high-ranking visits and accelerating cooperation in such areas as economics, trade and investment. 

He asked for mutual support and coordination at international and regional forums, especially at the United Nations and ASEAN. 

Referring to the construction of the headquarters of Lao NA, Mr. Phuc confirmed that Viet Nam will pledge its utmost to inaugurate the headquarters as planned. 

He proposed the two sides actively share information and strengthening cooperation with other relevant nations and organizations to sustainably use and monitor the water resource in the Mekong River, reasonably and effectively exploit the hydropower potential as well as ensure safety and security of water resources and environment for the sake of each side and other people. 

Viet Nam is willing to cooperate with and assist Laos in realizing its strategy of energy development, including hydropower energy, stated the PM.
