VN vows to promote dialogues and connectivity to handle global challenges

Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh announced Viet Nam’s consistent policy while meeting with foreign diplomats and heads of international organizations on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year Festival on January 23 in Ha Noi. 

According to the top diplomat, in 2019, Viet Nam will consistently promote its efforts to integrate into the global economy. The country will strongly engage in economic linkages and implement the signed free trade agreements to bring more opportunities on economic cooperation, trade and investment between Viet Nam and other countries. 

The Deputy PM also revealed that Viet Nam will accelerate preparation to run for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council in the 2020-2021 term. 

The host leader highlighted the country’s achievements in the year, saying that despite formidable challenges, Viet Nam fulfilled 12 socio-economic criteria set for the year, including 7.08% of GDP growth rate, the record level since 2008 and US$ 7.2 billion of trade surplus. 

Regarding external affairs, he said that the 61 high-level visits in 2018 made the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and foreign countries develop into a more extensive manner.

The country also organized four important international conferences including the WEF ASEAN last September which was regarded as the most successful one in the 27 year-long history of WEF. Viet Nam also passed the CPTPP and increased its contributions to the UN peace keeping mission. 

On behalf of the Government and people of Viet Nam, Deputy PM Minh expressed his sincere gratitude to foreign countries, partners, organizations, and international organizations for joining hands and supporting Viet Nam over the past years. He also hoped that the cooperation would be strengthened in 2019. 

In reply, Venezuelan Ambassador to Viet Nam Jorge Rondon Uzcategui, who is head of the diplomatic corps, shared his joy with Viet Nam’s strong and stable growth./.
