PM hosts Governor of Bank of Lao PDR

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception for Governor of the Bank of the Lao PDR (BOL) Sonexay Sitphayxay in Ha Noi on January 9, during which he highly appreciated the diverse and in-depth cooperation between the State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) and the BOL over the past years.

The Government leader said that he and his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith recently co-chaired the 41st meeting of the Viet Nam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee. The two sides reviewed and recognized bilateral cooperation activities in 2018, while agreeing on the collaboration plan for 2019, with focus on increasing two-way trade by at least 10% compared to last year.

Sharing the difficulties currently faced by Laos, PM Phuc affirmed that Viet Nam is always willing to support the Lao government in its efforts to ensure economic stability and development.

He asked the SBV to direct the banking sector to continue cooperating and actively supporting the BOL, particularly sending competent experts to help the Lao side.

The PM expressed his belief that the two sides would work closely and effectively implement the initiatives and agreements reached by senior leaders of the two countries, including the areas that both the BOL and the Lao government are interested in.

Sonexay Sitphayxay voiced his delights to visit Viet Nam and attend an important conference of the Vietnamese banking sector, stating that through the conference, the BOL will learn a lot of experience in management and regulation from the SBV.

The BOL Governor called for continuous cooperation, support and experience sharing from the Vietnamese side in the fields of finance and banking, such as the issues of foreign exchange management and the regulation of monetary policy and exchange rate.
