Germany helps restore Hue’s Phung Tien palace

VGP - The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre (HMCC) and Germany’s Society for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, Fulda (GEKE) on January 7 organized a handover ceremony of restoration of Phung Tien palace, part of the Hue Citadel world heritage site in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

Phung Tien palace

Constructed under the reign of King Minh Mang in the 19th century, Phung Tien was among the Nguyen dynasty’s five most important palaces. It was used to worship the Nguyen Dynasty kings and their wives.

The project cost a total of nearly VND4.3 billion, of which over VND3.4 billion was sponsored by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Embassy of Germany in Viet Nam, with the rest from Viet Nam’s corresponding fund.

The restoration work started on September 29, 2017.

Speaking at the ceremony, German Ambassador to Viet Nam Christian Berger expressed his delight on the success of the project, which not only contributes to embellishing a complete landscape and heritage space in the Hue Citadel world heritage site but also improving the awareness of the local community on the preservation works of heritages.
