RoK regards VN as top partner in its ‘new southern policy’

VGP – The Republic of Korea (RoK) regards Viet Nam as the top partner in its ‘new southern policy,’ said RoK President Moon Jae-in.

President Moon Jae-in made the point on December 6 in Seoul while meeting with Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. 

The host leader expressed his pleasure to meet the Vietnamese top legislator following his official visit to Viet Nam in March, 2018.

He took the occasion to congratulate the Vietnamese National Assembly on electing Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as State President. 

Viet Nam is a strategic partner of the RoK in all fields, affirmed President Moon Jae-in.

The host leader welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on an action plan for attaining US$ 100 billion in bilateral trade by 2020 towards trade balance; proposing the Vietnamese top legislator and the National Assembly to support Korean enterprises to do long-term business in Viet Nam and contribute to national economic development. 

President Moon Jae-in said the Viet Nam and the RoK share a large number of similarities in history and culture. He also praised the Vietnamese community in the RoK for their great contribution to local development. 

He stressed that the RoK is pursuing the ‘new southern policy’ which aims to cement and deepen ties with ASEAN of which Viet Nam is one of the most important partners. The RoK will host the ASEAN-RoK Summit. The host leader took the occasion to seek Viet Nam’s support to strengthen ties with ASEAN. 

In return, Chairwoman Ngan affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly hopes to consolidate and build mutual trust and contribute to cementing and deepening the Viet Nam-RoK strategic partnership. 

The guest leader suggested the two countries maintain regular exchanges of delegations to foster political trust and create a favorable environment. 

Viet Nam always creates the best conditions for Korean investors to join in key projects and encourage technological transfer, especially in renewable energy, affirmed the top legislator./.
