VN, RoK head to trade value of US$100 bln in more balanced, sustainable way

VGP – Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung and the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s PM Lee Nak Yeon agreed to boost trade and investment cooperation to achieve the two-way trade value of US$100 billion by 2020 in a more balanced and sustainable way during their meeting on December 3 in Seoul, the RoK.

Welcoming the Deputy PM and the Vietnamese delegation’s visit to the RoK, Mr. Lee Nak Yeon stressed the meaning of the visit, which makes a crucial contributions to promoting the two nations’ relations more intensively in the upcoming time. 

Deputy PM Dung conveyed PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s greetings to Mr. Lee Nak Yeon. 

The two leaders were delight on the intensive and effective development in Viet Nam-RoK strategic cooperative partnership and consented on crucial measures to strengthen mutual trust and knowledge and promote the bilateral relationship more comprehensively in the upcoming time. 

The two sides will maintain usual high-ranking meetings and visits and enhance practical cooperation in such areas as diplomacy, defense and security. 

Mr. Dung high spoke of the RoK’s Government considering Viet Nam as top priority in its New Southern Policy, asserting that Viet Nam attaches importance to the relations with the RoK.

He suggested the two sides enhance coordination to facilitate Viet Nam’s farm products to enter the RoK and the RoK support to improve Vietnamese products’ competitiveness. 

He proposed the RoK assist Viet Nam’s start-up, accelerate technology transfer, develop Viet Nam’s auxiliary industry to reduce the excess of imports over exports from the RoK.

Deputy PM Dung asked to maintain non-refundable aid, development and preferential credit, launch and facilitate labor cooperation effectively.    

The guest welcomed the RoK’s firms to pour more investment in Viet Nam in such areas as auxiliary industry, automobile production, electronic – semiconductor, energy and renewable energy, infrastructure development for industrial parks, smart cities and agricultural modernization. 

He confirmed that the Vietnamese Government is willing to create favorable conditions for the RoK’s businesses to join large-scale infrastructure projects in Viet Nam in form of public–private partnership and the equitization process at State-owned enterprises.

The same occasion, Mr. Dung highly valued the Korean Government’s facilitation of visa issuance for Vietnamese citizens, suggesting the RoK’s Government ensure the rights for Vietnamese in the RoK, especially Vietnamese women getting married to Korean men and their families.

Mr. Lee Nak Yeon affirmed that the RoK’s Government attaches importance to the strategic cooperative partnership with Viet Nam, adding that he will direct related ministries and agencies to effectively realize reached agreements between the two nations to upgrade the bilateral relationship to a new height. 

The meeting was organized as part of the Vietnamese Deputy PM’s visit to the RoK from December 2-6 at the invitation of the RoK’s Government. 

Within the working visit, Mr. Dung met leader of the liberal Democratic Party of Korea Lee Hae Chan, President of the Korea International Exchange Fund Lee Si Hyung, visited the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK and met representatives of Overseas Vietnamese studying and working in the RoK.
